Marginalised & excluded older people influencing housing plans and services

This project supportrf greater participation by older people whose voices are less often heard in order to increase their influence in local housing and housing-related decision making.

The project aimed to

  • Decrease the number of older people living in a non-decent home

  • Incorporate measures to make older people's homes decent, safe and suitable for healthy, independent ageing into new integrated health and care systems

  • Maintain a nationally defined, mandatory system of help for disadvantaged older people who need help with home adaptations

Activities included supporting the national Older People's Housing Champions Network and organising a range of local outreach events and activities with Champions across England.

Older People's Housing Champions

Care & Repair England supported action by older people's groups and forums across England to improve housing and related services for an ageing population

  • A national group of Older People's Housing Champions is raising awareness of the scale and impacts of poor and unsuitable housing and influencing decision making to improve older people's homes and lives

  • This group published its Housing Manifesto and a 'Quick Read' version setting out 'Seven Steps to better housing for Ageing' and an infographic of key facts and figures
